Out with Viva Magenta

As 2024 approaches, anticipation for the season’s upcoming trends is prominent. Colors, styles, and silhouettes of potential upcoming fashions can be previewed in the Spring/Summer 2024 collections debuted during fashion week and, like clockwork, Pantone has introduced the latest color of the year for 2024: Peach Fuzz.

On December 8th, the iconic color brand introduced the delicate pastel shade of orange described to invoke a warm and fuzzy feeling to those who perceive it. This emerging shade is similar and strikingly different compared to 2023’s color of the year “Viva Magenta”. A striking color whose vibrancy matched perfectly with 2023’s technological growth cough-cough AI.

To properly welcome a new year of unique shades that capture the essence of 2024, reflecting on 2023 and Viva Magenta’s reign helps us realize just how much of an impact it had on fashion, beauty, and pop-culture this year. This was some of Viva Magenta’s greatest moments.

Valentino

It’s impossible to talk about magenta in fashion without first reminiscing on Valentino’s Fall 2022 collection, a predecessor to the 2023 color reveal that sent the world into a fuchsia frenzy. The 81-look collection featured 53 all-magenta looks to the very smallest details and were presented on an all magenta catwalk from the stairs, and even the seating for guests.

The extreme monochromatic collection forced an emphasis on the intricate details in the silhouettes of each look, as that was the what set the pieces apart from one another.

Campaigns, such as ones with the houses ambassador actress and model, Zendaya, featured the same now iconic fuchsia palette. Valentino had a good feeling about the shade even before Pantone had the opportunity to announce it and a big way, making it the color of the brand for a season, paying no mind to any other hues.

Marc Jacobs

One of NYC's most acclaimed designers released his own take on the bold shade of Viva Magenta as well. One of Marc Jacobs best selling bags, The Tote Bag, has been transformed into various materials over the years from canva, to denim, to leather, and is offered in an extensive number of color palettes and sizes. This holiday season, Marc Jacobs hopped on the magenta train with a style of their medium leather tote bag in the shade Lip Stick Pink. An electrifying shade of hot pink with hints of purple making it a gorgeous addition to their array of colors.

Jimmy Choo

A color so bright and bold deserved to be featured in all garments and shoe master Jimmy Choo agrees.

Known for their gorgeously feminine pumps, each with their unique character and flair released some of their iconic styles in a rich satin finish in, you guessed it, magenta! One style in particular, their iconic Sedea heel, part of the Icons collection, features a stunning pointed pump and a beautiful genuine Swarovski crystal ankle straps. The hue is also available in the Azai and Bing heel style, as well as in their Bon Bon handbag along with additional styles.

Fendi

Fendi wasn’t afraid to dip their toes into the daring shade of pinkish-purple this year featuring it in five looks from their Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection that debuted at Fashion Week back in February. In contrast to Valentino, Marc Jacobs, and Jimmy Choo, who all stuck to a monochromatic color scheme or paired magenta with black, Fendi was daring, pairing the already vibrant color with a flaming shade of red.
