Are Phones The Hottest Fashion Accessory, Again?

There is a popular theory that fashion trends are revived after 20 years of its peak. In the 2020s we have seen a resurgence of y2k trends from low rise jeans to ballet flats. In the early 2000s, you would catch everyone with a designer phone, from the Motorola Baby Phat phone to the LG Prada phone. As the decade ended, we buried our designer phones and said hello to iPhones. Due to this popular theory the fashionable phone trend has been restored back to life by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 Maison Margiela Edition Couture and Technology.

The phone is a limited edition and is set to be released in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea. It comes in a package that replicates an expandable archive folder, mimicking Maison Margiela’s popularity when it comes to archival fashion. The brand, which was founded in 1988, they have always been ahead of time, with their minimalism aesthetic. A prime example is their tabi boots. Though the tabi boots were released in 1988, they are famously worn today and collectors stem from celebrities like Dua Lipa and Chloë Sevigny.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 Maison Margiela Edition features a rear glass with a design that strongly displays the inner workings of a Maison Margiela jacket enhanced by the silver and metallic effects, which is the fashion house’s signature color. It also contains Margiela’s famous numerical logo and 11 is circled. According to Margiela 11 represents a collection of accessories for both men and women, the phone stands no limits, not even gender.

Now that the phones are entering back into the fashion scenes, what collaboration would you like to see next? Do you think this trend will be hot or a flop?
